Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
BnBongo (bnbongo.co.tz and the BnBongo and BnBongo Host apps) connects guests with hosts of short stays in Tanzania. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have.
What we collect
Account: your name, phone number, email address, password (stored encrypted by our sign-in provider, never readable by us) and an optional profile photo.
Bookings: the stay you request, dates, number of guests, your note to the host, the price and the status of the booking.
Payments: the mobile money number you pay from and the payment reference. We never see or store your mobile money PIN.
Hosts: your listings (photos, videos, description, address and map location, prices, calendar) and, for business hosts, the prepaid wallet history.
Location: only when you use "Near me", to find stays around you. It is used for that search and not saved to your profile.
Device: a notification token so we can send booking updates, your app language, and technical logs used to fix errors.
Why we use it
To create and secure your account, including password reset emails.
To run bookings: send requests to hosts, confirm stays, and share contact details between guest and host once a booking is confirmed.
To take BnBongo’s commission and business-host wallet top-ups by mobile money.
To send notifications about your bookings.
To keep the platform safe: prevent fraud and misuse, and handle disputes and support requests.
To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Who we share it with
The other side of your booking: after confirmation, the host sees the guest’s name and phone number, and the guest sees the host’s contact and the address.
Service providers who run BnBongo for us: Google Firebase and Google Cloud (sign-in, database, file storage, hosting), Google Maps (addresses and maps), Selcom (mobile money payments), and our email provider (password reset emails).
Authorities, when the law requires it.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not show advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, phone number, email, photo and sign-in are deleted. Past bookings, payments and reviews are kept without your name, because the other guest or host relies on that history and the law requires us to keep financial records.
Your choices and rights
See and change your name, photo and language in your profile.
Delete your account at any time in the app (Me → Delete my account) or on bnbongo.co.tz/delete-account.
Ask for a copy of your data or a correction by writing to support@bnbongo.co.tz.
Turn off notifications in your phone’s settings.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with Google Cloud. Access inside BnBongo is limited to staff who need it to run the service.
Children
BnBongo is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date on this page and tell you in the app for important changes. Questions: support@bnbongo.co.tz.
